The Chatham Cup is New Zealand's premier knockout tournament in men's association football, having been contested annually since 1923. The most sought after trophy in New Zealand football, only Christchurch United (7) and University-Mount Wellington (7) have won it more than NSU.

The National League is New Zealand's top men's club football league competition. Between 1970 and 1992 this was known as the National Soccer League or National League, from 1993-1995 as the Superclub League, and from 2021 onwards as the New Zealand National League.

From 1970 to 2003 and 2021 onwards the Northern Premier league was the second tier men's club football competition, below the National League and alongside the Central and Southern leagues. From 2004-2020 it was the first tier men's club football competition alongside the Central League and Southern League after the franchising of the New Zealand Football Championship.

The Auckland Provincial Championships ran from 1892 to 1967, with the goal of determining the best team in the province who would then represent the province against other New Zealand provinces in competitions for the Brown Shield (1892 to 1925) and Football Association Trophy (1926 to 1967).
